The Power of Showing Up: Reflecting on a Year of Purposeful Volunteering

Over 350 volunteers. 1,100+ hours. Discover how WeWork India, with its members and partners, made a year-long impact through environmental restoration, women empowerment, and community service.
Volunteering isn’t just about grand gestures. It’s about showing up, time and again, to do what matters. And over the past year, that’s exactly what we did.
What started as a commitment to community evolved into a collective movement of purpose, driven not just by our employees, but by our members, partners, and changemakers who rolled up their sleeves alongside us. Together, we created real impact, with over 350 volunteers, 1,100 hours contributed, and countless moments of connection and transformation. Here’s a look back at our collective efforts,
Restoring Tarahunise lake’s fragile ecosystem
In our ongoing mission to restore the fragile ecosystem of Tarahunise Lake, our teams led two key interventions:
- Built a medical herb garden Boosts biodiversity and beautifies the lake while providing local access to medicinal herbs
- Constructed 14+ floating islands Improves water quality and strengthens the lake’s natural ecosystem
These eco-friendly efforts are helping create a lasting, sustainable connection between people and nature.
Empowering women with the Shakti Sisterhood
In collaboration with the Shakti Sisterhood in Tarahunise village, our volunteers hosted 12 upskilling sessions for women in the community,
- Art therapy for healing through creativity
- Social media marketing with Form & Flow, to open digital doors
- Financial literacy to encourage independence
- Computer and android basics to build confidence with technology
- Legal literacy on inheritance rights and domestic violence
Every session helped build stronger, more informed communities.
Partnering with our members to drive change
We’re grateful to our partners who joined us in giving back, demonstrating the true spirit of collaboration.
- With Moss Adams, we led a village clean-up drive in Tarahunise and collected 154 kg of waste while promoting sustainable waste management practices
- With Adyen and Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI), we hosted floating island-building activities, engaging their teams in ecological restoration efforts.
Clean-ups across Mumbai and Chennai
In Mumbai, we hosted two large-scale clean-up drives across iconic coastlines from Dadar to Carter Road, resulting in the removal of over 870 kg of garbage. This sparked community conversations on sustainability and ocean health.
In Chennai, we hosted our first-ever volunteering initiative with the Environmentalist Foundation of India (E.F.I). Our community came together at Ashtalakshmi Beach and collected over 180 kg of waste, successfully restoring the shoreline and contributing to a cleaner, greener future.
Nature walks and awareness sessions with WCS
We partnered with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) to bring people closer to nature through guided trails and immersive workshops in Mumbai. These sessions focused on leopard conservation and the importance of peaceful coexistence, inspiring participants to actively protect wildlife and preserve natural habitats.
Girls’ day: Inspiring the next generation of women
On March 7, 2024, and again on March 13, 2025, we partnered with Colours of Life (COLA) to host Girls’ Day at WeWork Prestige Central, Bangalore—an initiative to spark inspiration in the next generation of women. Across the two events, we held 21 career counseling sessions for girls from government schools, introducing them to new career paths and possibilities. What stayed with us most were their sharp questions, bold dreams, and the quiet confidence they carried into the room.
To The Anonymous Indian Charitable Trust (TAICT), your unwavering partnership has been instrumental to everything we’ve built at Tarahunise. To the passionate teams at WCS, COLA, Form & Flow, Adyen, MSCI, and Moss Adams, thank you for trusting us, for showing up, and for amplifying the ripple effect of volunteering. This year, we didn’t just show up, we showed what’s possible when people and purposes align. We’re excited to keep going, keep growing, and keep giving—together.
